Domestic CAD Ecosystem Forum (Shanghai): Industrial Adoption of Geometry Engines

The Shanghai stop of the Domestic CAD Ecosystem Forum was co-hosted by the community and industry partners. It focused on the replacement path and real-world results of geometry engines in industrial scenarios, with attendees from OEMs, industrial software vendors, universities and research institutes.

  • Electronic Design: applying assembly constraints and data exchange to PCB structural collaboration.

Roundtable

The discussion centered on "where the cost boundary of engine replacement lies" and reached three points of consensus:

  1. The bulk of the replacement effort sits in data exchange and tolerance strategy adaptation, not in the modeling APIs themselves.
  2. A regression-ready set of industry test cases should be established early in the project as the basis for acceptance.
  3. Defect response time is the metric industrial users care about most, and the SLA should be made explicit through community mechanisms.

Follow-up Actions

  • The community will work with attending companies to consolidate industry test case sets and gradually include them in public regression testing.
  • Frequently asked questions collected at the forum will be turned into FAQ entries and added to the documentation.
  • The next forum stop is planned for southwest China; the date will be announced on the news page.
